The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club endorses Premises Systems

The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club (GPYC) is one of the premier yacht clubs in the United States. According to its website:

"The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club's roots reach back to 1914, when 25 local men formed a club to pursue their interests in ice boating and sailing on Lake St. Clair. Guy Lowell, a well-known Boston architect and yachtsman of the 20's, was responsible for the unique 18th century Italian Renaissance design of the clubhouse. It was dedicated on July 4, 1929."

In 2006, the GPYC was in need of replacing an aging TDM based phone system. GPYC management decided to do their own research and explore what technolgy offered the best long-term investment. Premises Systems is proud to report they selected ShoreTel. The GPYC remains a very satisfied PSI client. Following is the text of an endorcement letter from GPYC GM/COO, Michael Mooney:

"I strongly recommend Premises Systems, Inc. (PSI) to anyone planning to replace their phone system with new technology. Before the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club selected PSI, our old phone system was on its last legs. We were spending too much on support agreements, service calls, and analog phone lines. It was past time to invest in something new.

The GPYC did not hire a consultant or go through a traditional RFP process to make our decision. Instead we scheduled two-way interviews with prospective vendors and allowed them to design solutions based upon their discovery processes. In the end, we selected three vendors to quote a new system. Premises Systems was the only vendor to offer IP Telephony (VoIP). The other two stated we were not big enough for VoIP, or did not think VoIP was a good solution for us. One claimed it was not reliable and did not make sense for a single site. We chose to disagree then and disagree even more strongly today. PSI was not the lowest bidder, but they offered the most innovative solution and delivered the greatest value with ShoreTel.

Shore Tel’s design made the cut-over easier than an older phone system would have been, since it uses our computer wiring, not separate voice cables. This allowed us to leverage an earlier investment in fiber optics to install IP Phones in outlying buildings. The system enables us to page all employees through speakerphones in the event of an emergency. This feature was important to us from a safety standpoint.

The installation went as smoothly as advertised, and the system is so user friendly that our receptionist Trish does most of the ongoing programming. ShoreTel is so easy to understand that our employees actually use most of the features (transfers & conference calls for instance) without calling anyone for help. This is also a testament to the Premises Systems trainers.

The ShoreTel system has so many features we are still exploring new ways it can help us better serve our members. Our members are already getting more personal service since ShoreTel caller ID integrates into a system directory and Outlook contacts to "pop" the callers’ names along with their caller ID information, thus allowing a personal touch when picking up the phone. We can also set up hunt groups, custom greetings, and dedicated voicemail boxes for special events in a matter of minutes, by ourselves.

Our new ShoreTel system has been a solid investment for the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. It is an investment that delivers on the promise of new technology. It is one of the best buying decisions we have ever made. Since the beginning, we have been impressed with Premises Systems professionalism, technical expertise, and commitment to us. They have gone above and beyond our expectations."

Sincerely,

Michael Mooney, CCM
General Manager/COO

What is Unified Communications?

Just like VoIP and IP Telephony, the term Unified Communications means different things to different people. ShoreTel has put together a rather concise definition that also points to its significant competitive advantage.

"With increasingly busy shedules and workers located around the world, it's not always easy to reach the right people at the right time. We play phone tag, interrupt important meetings to take calls, and fly all over the world, all the while continuing to wrestle with and endless list of voicemails, e-mails, missed calls and more. To avoid delays in projects, incomplete decisions, and reduced employee performance resulting from this communications chaos, organizations need to simplify operations with solutions that connect people and information more quickly and efficiently. This is the role of unified communications (UC)."
